There is sad news out of Oklahoma City today as a KOCO is reporting that a semi traveling northbound on Interstate 35 (I-35) and crossed over into the southbound lanes of the interstate killing one and injuring two others. It is not being reported how serious the motorists injuries are. Newsok.com is also reporting that the trucking accident happened around 6:25 a.m.
Although I’m engaging in pure speculation, the timing and initial reports of the semi crossing into the southbound lanes of I-35 is an immediate indicator that fatigue may have played a role in the trucking accident at issue. Typically, fatigue semi accidents occur late at night or in the early morning hours. Further, crossing over into an opposing interstate is also an indicator that fatigue and/or inattentive driving played a role in the semi crash.
Truck driver fatigue is defined as the exhausted, sleepy, or tired feeling a driver experiences while operating a commercial motor vehicle. I’ve recently wrote extensively about trucking fatigue in my blogs entitled “Practical Tips to Avoid Fatigued Driving By Truckers and Other Motorists’’ and “Fatigue – The Hidden Killer In Trucking Accidents.” I also discussed in brevity the process by which attorneys can examine trucker’s logs in evaluating a trucking accident when fatigue is at issue.
