A statistical projection of traffic fatalities by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the first quarter of 2009 shows that an estimated 7,689 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes. This represents a decline of about 9 percent as compared to the 8,451 fatalities that occurred in the first quarter of 2008.

It appears this trend is consistent to what we are seeing in Oklahoma in 2009. According to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety there have been 20 fewer deaths reported on Oklahoma roads in 2009 as compared to 2008 as of May 2009. However, according to the Tulsa World, June saw and increase that brought us within 6 deaths of 2008. .

This is a scary trend. As an Oklahoma car wreck lawyer I’m tired of seeing people needlessly die in car wrecks. We need to be extra diligent in the coming months and insure our personal safety as well as the safety of our loved ones.
