An Oklahoma highway inspector died on Tuesday after a tractor-trailer overturned on him, NewsOK reports. The inspector was working in the median of the Interstate 40 Crosstown construction project at Interstate 35 in Oklahoma City on Monday when the tractor-trailer carrying asphalt backed into the area to load the asphalt into a spreader. The load shifted and the truck overturned, pinning the inspector between the truck and a concrete median barrier.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation only had the kindest of words to say about the inspector. “The loss of such a hardworking, dedicated ODOT employee is felt by each of his 2,400 co-workers statewide, particularly at the Oklahoma City construction residency where he worked, “quoted the department. “The family and ODOT deeply appreciate the kind words and support of many Oklahomans and ask for continued support for the family and those who worked directly with them.”
This accident serves as a reminder that construction sites can be very dangerous places. Employees working on jobs on busy roads not only have to deal with the risks associated with the job itself but also the surrounding traffic. When approaching a construction site, please drive with the upmost caution and safety.
