A Nebraska nursing home settled a lawsuit claiming that the facility allowed one patient to lie in her own excrement for extended periods following back surgery. The plaintiff alleged that the nursing home, Life Care Center of Elkhorn’s, neglect lead to a severe infection that resulted in the removal of most of her colon. The parent company of the facility, Life Care Centers of America, owns and operates over 280 senior citizen homes in 28 states. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
