The associated press is reporting that a group of eight (8) motorcycle riders stopped at a red light were rammed from behind by a dump truck killing three (3) riders and injuring six (6) others. Among the critically injured is a Phoenix Fire Department Captain. The press release describes the scene of the motorcycle truck crash as horrific.

Some of the motorcycles burst into flames under the dump truck, while others ended up scattered behind the truck. Television images of the crash site showed a horrifying collection of mangled chrome Harley-Davidson bikes and scattered personal belongings, including pairs of riders’ boots laying in the roadway.

"It’s a horrific scene," Phoenix Fire Deputy Chief Frank Salomon.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased as well as those injured. We hope the facts preceding the collision can shed some light on what happened and hopefully reinforce both trucking and motorcycle safety issues.
