Dwight Gooden Faces Multiple Charges in Car Accident

Comments Off

I still remember the utter dominance in which Dwight Gooden displayed in 1985 with the New York Mets. He was amazing and seemed to be poised for a career that would have surely enthroned him in the revered Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown New York.

Tragically, he never reached his promised in the sport because of injuries and drug and alcohol abuse. Now comes news almost 25 years after his greatest season that Dwight Gooden has involved in a car accident in which he left the scene and most disturbingly was apparently transporting a child while under the influence of drugs. According to ESPN.com Gooden was

charged in New Jersey with driving under the influence of drugs and leaving the scene of an accident.

Franklin Lakes police Capt. Joseph Seltenrich says the 45-year-old former pitcher for the New York Mets and Yankees had a child in his vehicle at the time of the two-vehicle crash at about 9 a.m. ET Tuesday.

Police are not saying whose child it was, but say no one was hurt.

Authorities say Gooden was also charged with child endangerment and motor vehicle violations. They would not release details, including the type of drugs.
